Stay in Touch

Especially For Artists and Musicians

A core part of the Arts Council of Wayne County’s mission is to support and promote artists.  We strive to do this through opportunities such as:

The Arts Council welcomes artists to participate in our free, year-round exhibit program.  For each exhibit, we advertise in the local newspapers, local TV and radio stations, and in our newsletter, as well as online. Exhibits are a great way to showcase a large body of work or series. Additionally, the Arts Council hires a local musician to perform at the opening reception of every exhibit.

The Art Market is a retail shop that features the work of over seventy local artists. With its prime downtown location, the Art Market catches the downtown dinner crowd, drawing in a diverse range of visitors. We encourage artists to have their work for sale in the Art Market; it is not only a way for artists to sell their work, but it is a vital part of the Arts Council’s effort to establish a thriving arts district in Downtown Goldsboro.

On the First Friday of every month, the ACWC opens up our doors to the public for them to get acquainted with our galleries, Art Market, studios and local artists.  These events are prime opportunities for artists to connect with other artists and potential supporters, market themselves and sell their work commission-free. First Friday is a laid-back social event, with refreshments and music—the perfect environment for mingling. Artists are invited to reserve a table in one of our rooms upstairs—we’ll set up the room with a table, tablecloth, chairs, easels, and even a sign with the artist’s name on it for $20. On nights when the Arts Council is not hosting a drum circle, local musicians are hired to provide music.

Twice per year, the ACWC partners with Goldsboro Parks and Recreation to host Sunday in the Park. This event, which draws in hundreds of people from all over Wayne County, features arts and crafts vendors, a farmer’s market, and live entertainment. Artists and craftspeople can set up a booth to display and sell their work, with a table and chairs and the option of a tent, or can even set up inside the park house at Herman Park.

From papier-mâché to furniture refurbishing, piano to guitar, the Arts Council is dedicated to offering a variety of art and music classes for all ages. We’re always looking for new ideas for classes and new instructors. This is another opportunity for artists to be involved in the ACWC programs, share their talents with others, and earn some cash!

Every quarter the Arts Council offers professional development seminars for artists to learn and share tricks of the trade. Learn how to make money with art and how to present and work like a professional artist, hear what’s been trending in the local art scene, and more.

Every year, we host the Juried Fine Arts Exhibition, which is open to artists from all around the nation, and provides cash prizes to award winners. This is a wonderful opportunity for an art to showcase his or her work; even the artist’s work is not selected for the show, it hangs in the gallery on a special display for a few weeks to be seen by gallery-goers and potential buyers.

On the second Thursday of every month, from 6:30-8:30pm, the Arts Council opens its doors to musicians, artists, writers and performers to participate in open mic nights. Bring your instruments, your voice, your energy and share it with like-minded individuals in a creative, nurturing environment.

The Arts Council of Wayne County is here for local artists. We want to make sure that we’re doing everything possible to support artists, encourage creativity, and nurture talent. If you have any questions about any of these opportunities, would like to participate or have a suggestion about what we could be doing better, please contact the Operations Director- at This email address is being protected from spambots.
