Stay in Touch

Especially For Families

Family-Friendly Events

The Arts Council of Wayne County's events are very family-friendly. There are always a variety of activities going on that are sure to interest everyone, from toddlers to teens to grandparents. At First Fridays, children are welcome to participate in crafts, join a drum circle, interact with artists and explore our facility (under the supervision of a guardian, of course). On the first Sunday of select summer months, bring the family out to Herman Park for Sunday in the Park. The family can enjoy a free concert, browse the farmers and artisans market, make a craft, take a ride on the Kiwanis miniature train and more. What a great way to make memories!

Quarterly Family Fun Saturdays

Once a quarter, the Arts Council hosts a morning of fun crafts and light refreshments for children and their parents.  The specific Saturday is announced in our quarterly newsletter and always takes place from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Our most popular Family Fun Saturday is our annual "Gingerbread Wonderland Breakfast," during which families can enjoy freshly baked muffins and create gingerbread houses together. This is just one example of type of festivities we have! To stay updated on when the next one will be, check our "Children's Classes" page.

Hamlet's Exhibit Scavenger Hunt

Hamlet, the Arts Council's beloved painted pig mascot, is always up for an adventure! When bringing the family for a visit to the Arts Council's galleries, make sure you help Hamlet navigate his way through the exhibits with the fun-filled "Scavenger Hunt" guide. The guide encourages children (and adults too!) to take a closer look at the art work, rather than just passing by it. And here's a bonus: after filling out the guide, give the form to a staff member to be entered into a drawing for $25 Art Market Gift Certificate!
