Dave Potter
Upcoming Performance on November 14, 2025
Dave Potter’s journey began with the electrifying pulse of funk and fusion, inspired by legends like Billy Cobham and Dennis Chambers, until a single recording by Tony Williams with the Miles Davis Quintet sparked his lifelong devotion to jazz. Guided by mentor Dr. Andrew Sioberg, he earned a scholarship to Florida State University, where he formed lasting musical bonds with Marcus Roberts and Jason Marsalis. Though his path was upended by Hurricane Katrina, he chose to return to FSU over Juilliard, deepening his artistry under Roberts’ mentorship. Now recognized as one of the leading drummers of his generation, Potter tours internationally with jazz greats and leads his own project, Retro Groove—whose upcoming third album reimagines 1980s classics with a vibrant mix of swing, soul, and blues that bridges jazz tradition and pop nostalgia.
